5 Reasons Why a PMU Artist Should Start Doing Laser Removal!

I have an online program called“Laser PRO.” It’s basic training in laser tattoo and PMU removal, and 90% of my students are permanent makeup artists.I conducted a survey among them and found out why they started offering laser removal. There are at leastfive main reasons.

Reason #1 — Avoid Losing Clients

You probably have clients who come to you with old permanent makeup that they want to cover up. After struggling with cover‑ups, you may no longer want to take on these cases. So you end up turning clients away and sending them to colleagues — or even competitors — who have a laser. Very few clients return after removal elsewhere; most stay with the new specialist and may even get new permanent makeup from them. That’s how you lose clients.
It’s much more convenient when all procedures — from removal to new work — are done by one specialist, and the client gets a solution without running around the city.

Reason #2 — Additional Income

Laser tattoo and PMU removal not only helps your clients — it’s also a way for you to earn more. Removal procedures typically require multiple sessions, which gives you an opportunity to expand your client base and generate more income from each client.
A brow tattoo removal session usually takes no more than 20 minutes including consultation. In 10–20 minutes you can earn around $50-100 or more depending on your country. You can comfortably take removal clients between your regular PMU appointments.
Many of my PMU students eventually transition fully into laser removal work.

Reason #3 — Help Clients & Expand Services

Laser tattoo and PMU removal has become increasingly relevant in recent years, because many people encounter problems with their existing permanent makeup, such as:
• Unsatisfactory results — the shape, color, or technique didn’t meet the client’s expectations.
• Changing preferences — fashion evolves, and what was trendy years ago may no longer suit a person.
• Inexperienced artists — poor quality work that doesn’t hold well, or even causes complications.
• Skin issues — irritation, allergic reactions, or other problems that lead to the need for removal.
Plus, you won’t be limited to just permanent makeup — you can also remove tattoos, expanding the range of services you offer. Many of my students start with brow removal and then begin taking tattoo clients as well.

Reason #4 — Reputation and Client Trust

Artists who offer laser removal demonstrate their qualifications and willingness to solve any problems related to permanent makeup. This helps build a strong reputation among clients who know they can come to you not only for new PMU but also for corrections and removal.
For example, if someone previously had PMU done and is unhappy with the result or it has gone out of style, they’ll know you can help with that too — making you a more trusted specialist in their eyes.

Reason #5 — Professional Growth

Training in laser removal is an additional step in your professional development. By mastering this technology, you can distinguish yourself from other artists who don’t offer this service. In a competitive beauty market, being able to combine permanent makeup and laser removal gives you a significant advantage.
